BORDERLAND
HERE AND HEAVEN
We are borderlanders at heart. We live and work along the boundary of "Here and Heaven." Our world is more than the physical. We embrace the visual, spiritual, natural, and metaphorical. Indeed our lives have familiar constraints, and yet we sense inexplicable presences that are very real. Scriptures say, "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?" (Hebrews 1:14)
As together our community practices THE PRESENCE OF GOD, our hearts and minds are quieted as a natural way of seeing floats quietly to the surface of our hyper-stimulated minds. This is a time of reflection where we explore an inner wilderness by way of an outer one. The natural world is a kind of mirror in which we discover our own inner terrain and wildness reflected.
We experience a reverence for the natural world. Scriptures say, "The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day after day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world" (Psalms 19:1-4)
Goat Rodeo Session's "Here and Heaven" performed by Stephanie Racheter
With a hammer and nails and a fear of failure we are building a shed
Between here and heaven between the wait and the wedding for as long as we both shall be dead to the world beyond the boys and the girls trying to keep us calm
We can practice our lines 'til we're deaf and blind to ourselves to each other where it's
Fall not winter spring not summer cool not cold
And it's warm not hot have you all forgotten that we're getting old
With an arrow and bow and some seeds left to sow we are staking our claim
On ground so fertile we forget who we've hurt along the way and reach out for a strange hand to hold someone strong but not bold enough to tear down the wall
'Cause we're not lost enough to find the stars aren't crossed why align them why fall hard not soft into
Fall not winter spring not summer cool not cold
And it's warm not hot have we all forgotten that we're getting old
And it’s fall, not winter, spring, not summer, cool, not cold
And it’s warm, not hot, has everyone forgotten that we’re getting old
And it’s fall, not winter, spring, not summer, cool, not cold
And it’s warm, not hot, have we all forgotten that we’re getting old
